Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month
It’s October! How did that happen?
Did you know that October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness month?
October 15 is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Day! It’s a day to honor and remember all the baby angels that left us while in utero or out, for any reason. And, it’s a day to focus efforts on awareness, prevention and maternal care after a pregnancy or infant loss.
This day is, obviously pretty important and personal to me and my journey but, a number of the guests on my podcast are also pregnancy and infant loss mamas: Jessica Hill, Christa Couture, Audrey Ford, Monika Schneider and Rachel Turza. As well as, a few that are in the cue to release later this month.
Neil and I appealed to our local government office to proclaim October 15 as Pregnancy and Infant Loss day in our city back in 2016 and now, our home does acknowledge the day. They run programs and light the local pier up in blue and pink in memoriam.
In Ontario, Bill 141 was created to require research to be made to identify and create programs to support pregnancy and infant loss as well as proclaim October 15 be Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness day.
If the day is not identified in your location, appeal to your mayor and see if you can get it done. And, look into what resources are available to you if you’ve struggled with pregnancy and infant loss. It affects more people than we all realize and it is nice to be seen.
One awesome resource is the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Centre in Calgary, Alberta. They offer several remote options so, you can take advantage of their support wherever you are located. Their founder, Aditi Loveridge joined me for an episode of the podcast last year.
If you haven’t been on this journey yourself, you know someone who has. So, please ensure the resources are available in your area.
